Initial Support

The Rebuild Initial Support Project offers short-term support to potential adult victims of exploitation, helping them transition from crisis to the next step in their future. Key features of the service include:

  • Assisting victims in Derby and Derbyshire who are at risk of destitution or further exploitation, including those unsure about entering the National Referral Mechanism.
  • Providing outreach support for individuals experiencing exploitation.
  • Supplying basic necessities such as hygiene packs, meals, and clothing.
  • Offering practical assistance, including daily contact, transportation, interpretation services, and referrals for legal advice.
  • Collaborating with local authorities to help secure stable housing for individuals exiting exploitative situations.

The service operates mainly during office hours, with flexible urgent support available. We collaborate with police and key stakeholders to ensure victim safety.

For more information, email initialsupport@rebuildeastmidlands.org or call 01332 913001.

Practical Support

There are many barriers to moving forward for the people we support. As a result of their exploitation, some may have a lack of ID as it has been taken from them or lost. Many face complex legal issues such as seeking asylum or criminal proceedings. Rebuild walks alongside these individuals to get them where they need to be.

  • Assisting with accessing housing and liaising with local housing providers.
  • Supporting people to register with GPs, opening bank accounts and claiming benefits.
  • Advocacy support to engage with statutory agencies, and support with identifying legal assistance if required.
  • Signposting to relevant training courses and ESOL classes.
  • Support seeking and accessing employment.

Community Support

We run regular groups and activities that aim to reduce isolation, build confidence and improve well-being. Examples include:

  • Sewing group.
  • IT group.
  • Coffee mornings.
  • Men’s groups.
  • Family and baby groups.

Emotional Support

Trauma affects people in different ways. We recognise the nuances of this and work with individuals in a way that is best suited for them. Our services are delivered by experienced and qualified staff with frontline experience.

  • 1:1 therapeutic sessions supporting individuals to manage stress, trauma and improve overall wellbeing. This could include movement, art and other creative therapies and wellbeing sessions.
  • Trauma informed life coaching to aid finding and then moving forward with life aims, goals and desires.
  • Resilience coaching to improve resilience for those we support to aid their ability to handle and negotiate the challenges in life.

Referral Process

If you are a practitioner supporting an individual who has experienced exploitation, human trafficking or modern slavery and would like to make a referral, please complete the online referral form. Referrals must have the consent of the individual being referred.

If you would like to talk to a member of the team prior to making a referral feel free to email referrals@rebuildeastmidlands.org and a member of the team will get back to you. From time to time referrals are made for individuals who do not meet our criteria, in this case we will signpost to other support organisations.

We do take self-referrals via our online referral form. Before you make a self-referral it would be great if you can contact the team through referrals@rebuildeastmidlands.org so we can make sure we are able to support you in the best way possible.

Training and Awareness Workshops

Although modern slavery happens in our communities, it is not something that is widely discussed or known about. Yet it affects economies, communities, and lives. Rebuild aims to raise awareness of the issues around modern slavery in the workplace and in our communities.

We offer a range of workshops to support this, which can be tailored to your needs.

All of our fee income goes towards supporting our charitable work with survivors of modern slavery, meaning you can be confident that when you work with us you are helping others at the same time.

You can select one of the links to complete a short form, or email training@rebuildeastmidlands.org for further information about course content.
